Venue Description

The Nottingham Crusader is a river cruiser sailing on The River Trent in Nottingham, that was purpose-built in 2000 to carry disabled passengers for the St John Ambulance's Waterwing. Following on from the dissolution of the Waterwing in 2014, Trent River Cruises took over the operation of The Nottingham Crusader and we continue to offer three hour not-for-profit cruises twice daily throughout the year specifically for disabled groups, residential and nursing homes, educational facilities, youth groups and registered charities. These cruises provide a valuable service to many people and allow for viewing the river in all its seasonal glory from the comfort of our centrally-heated river cruiser. Tea and coffee is provided free-of-charge throughout the cruise. Groups have the option of providing their own catering or can upgrade from the basic cruise package to one that includes food. Pre-booking is essential.

Accessibility

Passengers board the boat via a ramp. All doors are double-doors and are therefore wide enough to admit a wheelchair. The boat is single-decked with wheelchair access throughout the passenger areas.

Accessible Performances

During the cruise the Captain gives a live informative audio commentary detailing the sights along the river.

Toilets

There are two toilets onboard, one of which is a wheelchair-accessible toilet with enough space for one wheelchair-user and carer(s). There is a low-level sink and handrails, which can be raised and lowered as needed, on either side of the toilet.

Staff

Venue staff are volunteers with the exception of the Skipper who has a valid MCA Boat Masters Licence and First Aid qualification. Venue staff are not expected to help with disabled passengers and are not qualified to do so, therefore groups must ensure that they have sufficient carers onboard to meet the needs of all members of their group.
