Overview
Two trails at the Newberry National Volcanic Monument in the Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, Whispering Pines trail and Molten Land trail, were flat or with gentle slopes and paved—very easy access. They begin behind the visitors center which is also accessible (including their restrooms). It’s an absolutely beautiful place—unique sights of lava beds and surrounding terrain, flora and wildlife. We drove to Lava Butte—incredible view! My power chair made it to the top of Lava Butte, but it is a very steep trail, not intended to be ADA.

Staff
Staff was very polite and helpful. I went up t he Lava Butte trail not intended for access. My husband and the staff member held my chair on the way down just to be safe in case it slid. All was fine.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
It was beautiful, unusual site! From the base of Lava Butte, the view was great, so no need to risk going to the top. The trails were very diffierent--Pines trail was full of fauna but Molten trail was unique lava bed from hundreds of years ago--incredible place.
