Overview

I wasn't expecting the Forest Fringe venue at Out of the Blue to be as accessible as it turned out to be. Accompanied by a warm welcome and sense of enthusiasm from the people I met.

Transport & Parking

On street parking right outside the door was a great find. I came on the local bus - all local buses are wheelchair accessible - and the stop on Leith walk was only a short distance for me to wheel along.

Access

Arriving at the building entrance I was faced with two large doors. No sooner had I arrived than people offered to get the door which was great. On the way out I had no problem getting through the doors as they were lighter than they looked and easy to open. Once inside it was a large space with rooms off. I went exploring and everything was easy for me to get to. The layout for the Forest Fringe performances was fine with moveable furniture and plenty of space to sit and watch.

Toilets

There was a clearly signposted accessible loo. The door was wide and it was easy to wheel in. It may not be the largest of spaces if you need to bring a carer in with you. I was able to enter and turn about in my powerchair which was pretty good.

Staff

The staff were particularly helpful and enthusiastic. They helped with the doors, gave me a mini tour of the setup for the Forest Fringe and were full of information.

As a venue for the fringe I thought it worked very well.
