Overview
This gym is one of the best places to train if you're wheelchair bound. The gym itself is fully accessible to wheelchair users, and the trainers who work inside the gym are great at offering advice and support. There's plenty of kit inside the gym that can be used whilst in a wheelchair, including freeweights, battle ropes and medicine balls. The staff are all extremely friendly and very accommodating, and there's a lovely cafe where you can relax after your session.
Transport & Parking
Plenty of parking close to the entrance, and three dedicated parking spots for blue badge users. You can park here for free for up to 4 hours, but if you need more time you just sign your car in at reception. This gym is also just a stones throw away from Nottingham train station, making it the perfect place to go if you're travelling via train.
Access
Access into the gym is on flat ground, so no problems there. There is then an accessible gate that allows access into the gym, and a lift to take you down to the changing rooms. This means that you can access the gym and its facilities without too much support from anyone else. The only thing I would say is that once you get downstairs to the changing rooms, you then have to pull open the doors and they can be quite heavy. However, there are often of staff around to help if you need it. Once you get to the gym itself, there's a lift that is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair and another person. The gym itself is all on one level, and so access in and around this gym is so easy!
Toilets
There's only one accessible loo, and whilst it's easy to access, it isn't always clean or well maintained, so I can only give this 3.5 stars. However, when the toilet is fully stocked and cleaned it ticks all the boxes - spacious, easy to access and there's a handrail next to the loo for additional support.
Staff
The staff could not be more helpful! They are all extremely attentive - particularly Suzy on reception, she is amazing! All the trainers are clearly very knowledgable and I trust all their advice. The girls who work behind the cafe are also all very nice.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I would highly recommend this gym to any wheelchair user, as well as anyone not in a wheelchair. The facilities are great and there's a great selection of equipment that can be used in or out of a wheelchair.
