Overview

The music was fabulous. If you like classical music, an orchestral concert in the Great Hall here will be a delight, whether it's the Vienna Philharmonic or, as in our case, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

Transport & Parking

Can't comment on the parking. Karlsplatz U Bahn Station (fully accessible) is very close but the lift brings you out in what seemed like the wrong place. The safest route is to exit the station concourse in the direction away from the concert hall then turn left and walk through the gardens. Turn left into an underpass which takes you under the main road and you will find a lift that takes you up about 100 yards from the Musikverein, with no roads to cross.

Access

A ramp just to the right of the main entrance, with double doors at the top which open at the press of a button. There are lifts inside the building which are marked for wheelchair users but popular with people who don't really need them. We had to wait quite a while for the lift, both on arriving and leaving. The wheelchair spaces are in the loge, up one floor in the lift. They are excellent from the point of view of hearing the music, but face across the hall rather than towards the orchestra.

Toilets

The website says there are accessible toilets in the building but we didn't need to use one so can't comment.

Staff

Courteous and helpful if asked, but not proactive in the way that the staff at the Usher Hall are.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

You can't book wheelchair spaces on-line, but can book by phone. We booked through a very helpful agency (www.classicworld.at) whose commission was very low. Wheelchair users and their accompanists get concessions - our tickets were only 13 Euros each.
