July 2024 Review roundup

Picture of Hope Cross stables at vicarage Farn holiday Cottages

Welcome to the July review round-up. This month we have an exciting selection of reviews from across the UK. Our volunteer reviewers have been out and about visiting lots of different places.  We would like to thank our volunteer reviewers who are new to Euan’s Guide or volunteers who continue to review. We couldn't provide up-to-date disabled access information without your help. We know that reading one review can give someone the confidence to visit somewhere new for the first time.

Accessible places to stay

Ellen54 went to stay in Culmore Bridge accessible cottages near Stranraer. Ellen was concerned that her husband’s access requirements had changed due to him spending some time in hospital Ellen was concerned about this before going on holiday. However, when she spoke to the cottage owner she reassured Ellen that the cottage did have the facilities that they needed and Ellen and her husband had a very pleasant holiday together.   ‘We stayed in Rowan Cottage and it was lovely, totally wheelchair accessible, big rooms, great wet room, a lovely decked area looking onto the countryside’

Another excellent review was sent to us by DaysoutwithEm she had a fantastic holiday with her family. They stayed in an accessible holiday lodge provided by Sunart Strawbawbale accessible holiday lodges  The lodges are situated near the village of Strontian on the west coast of Scotland.   ‘We have already booked to return as we had such a great holiday - very rare to find such an accessible property that meets all our needs’

Darren who is a new reviewer on Euans Guide had a fantastic holiday at Hope Cross Stables at Vicarage Farm Holiday Cottages this is the second time that he has stayed at the cottages with his family. This five-star review gives a great overview of how the cottages made for the perfect holiday. The friendly owners Samantha and Andrew made him feel very welcome too.   ‘I've got nothing to say that could've been better, it was PERFECT!!!’

Places to visit with changing places toilets

For many of our volunteer reviewers, one of the big questions that we get asked about venues is if there is an accessible toilet. To mark Changing Places Awareness Day on the 19th of July we have asked reviewers to review places which have changing places toilets. We certainly weren’t disappointed!

Autisticandanxious sent us a fantastic review of the new changing places toilet in Greenhead Park in Huddersfield.   There are some really helpful photographs with this review showing the hoist and the adult changing bench.  This toilet is located within a park and is a short distance from the local shops.

SueT sent us a review of the cafe within Millmead Baptist Church in Guilford.  The cafe is open Wednesday to Saturday only.  SueT highly recommends the cafe for some tasty food and an accesible place to visit.  SueT highlighted to the venue owners the need for more accessible parking spaces.  The review mentions that the venue is dog friendly inside and out.  The overall star rating is 4.5.  Overall this looks like a great place to stop for a bite to eat and meet up with friends and family.  This review includes some brilliant photographs of different areas of the cafe, including the changing places toilet.

Review of the month

The review of the month is Culmore Bridge Cottages from Ellen54.  Her review gives a great round up of her holiday with her husband and it sounds like they both had a great time visiting somewhere new.  We look forward to hearing more of your reviews in the future Ellen54.

We are delighted to welcome some new volunteer reviewers  and also some new venues to Euan’s Gude. If you are the owner or manager of a venue then please remember to take a few minutes to list your venue on our website so that it can be more easily found by disabled people and their families and friends.
